Charceil Kellam #059920-084

CHARGE: conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine

SENTENCE: two life without parole sentences

YEARS IN PRISON: over 10 years

AGE: 51

WHY CHARCEIL'S LIFE SENTENCE SHOULD BE REDUCED

  • If Charceil was sentenced to powder cocaine as opposed to crack cocaine she would be out of prison already
  • Charceil is not a kingpin or any type of drug leader.  Her sentenced was so severe because she would not cooperate and because she had two minor state charges
  • Charceil is the mother to two young children Elijah and Nyjah
  • Charceil received a higher sentence than her co-defendant's, despite the fact she did not commit any acts of violence.
  • Sentencing Judge Conrad stated, "To me, it's over the top," [] I know it's more than I would have sentenced you to if Ihad been left to my own discretion and devices.  It's been taken out of my own hands.  I can assure you that if the law permits it, I will reduce your sentence because ..I think the period of life imprisonment that is mandated by the statue is somewhat out of proportion to the circumstance of your case."
